//The public are now getting in on the act with those ridiculous wristbands//
21:55 Robs post.
Now, we are helpfully advised to substitute poppies for wristband. So the wearing of poppies is deemed to be ridiculous? One to remember I'm sure. Glad I went to bed and ignored the thread, and the hollow luvviefest.
The point is a valid one. Why is it ridiculous to wear a wrist band to show support for something but wearing a poppy is generally seen as not being ridiculous, Neither is ridiculous, although I would agree the poppy is a symbol of something far more important than some of the causes covered by wrist bands.
I tried to watch last night but found it hard going and after an hour I just dipped in and out (mainly out).
F.F. I am sorry but I am truly aghast that the poppy symbol was used as a peevish retort to score a would be point. I have popped in this morning to have a quick look at the threads before getting busy with the gardening and can honestly say that although I was unsurprised that the jibe was made in the first place, I was really dismayed that it appeared to find support from a usually balanced, thoughtful and well regarded Aber. Saddened that the poppy is utilised to goad a former member of our vaunted Armed Services and in truth somewhat angry.
Sorry you are angry, togo and on quickly reading the head i didn't sense any goading and still aren't sure what you mean (was gness or mamyalynne goading baldric in your view?)- i just saw gness's response to the post from RobNorth about "ridiculous wristbands which I think (I stand to be corrected) proclaim look at me, I support this or the other charity.
If people want to support things I don't see what's wrong with that and I am not sure we should question their motives.
I watched it last night and enjoyed some bits where as other bits I thought fell a bit flat. I couldn't understand a word Vic & Bob were saying but then I was occupied with other things at the time. One of the sketches I did find hilarious was Smack The Pony.
£71m is a phenomenal amount raised in one night with more coming in over the next few weeks.
it's perhaps disappointing that today, those purporting to be comedians, don't believe that their output is at all amusing unless every second word is a word ruder than bottom, and/or is accompanied by props or scenarios implying sexual innuendo. it tends to display a lack of imagination on their part.
