I keep seeing Eurovision 2017 trailers on the beeb surely with our imminent departure from the EU this outdated program is no longer of relevance to us. Time to call it a day and we should call it a day?
The UK competes in Eurovision because the BBC is a member of the European Broadcasting Union, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the European Union.
The EBU has 73 broadcasters as full members, spread over 56 countries. All 56 countries are entitled to compete in the Eurovision Song Content (as long as they contribute to Eurovision's other activities, such as pooling new-gathering resources):

I don't bother watching the performances, but I enjoyed Terry Wogan's and now Graham Norton's commentary. I don't know why we bother entering anymore. We never get many votes now, and it's not exactly great for the unfortunate participant's career.
It started in the fifties with the European broadcasting union and it was another little idea to stop Europe actually going to war every ten years or so same as the Football euro competition and so far it actually working
