Not wanting to be accused of diverting a thread, I thought I would take this opportunity to answer a query that came up on a thread regarding the BBC's bias.

This was the query:

Maybe but I get the feeling this is a loaded story by the Daily Mail which, curiously for a paper that claims to back Britain, wastes no opportunity to lambast one of our most prized assets.
If they want to have a go, they should look at the daft way the licence fee is handled. That IS is need of a serious overhaul.

When I used to work night shift for a high street bank, everyone took ‘power naps’ at their desk.

It is sometimes a bit odd what can be seen happening in that room during the news. People seem to wander around scratching their nuts or with their feet up on the desks etc, with seemingly zero regard to the fact they're live on air to the nation.

I would have expected some kind of alarm to sound just before a broadcast to remind everyone to look busy and not do anything stupid until another alarm sounds to say 'as you were'.

Once, when in hospital, I had occasion to get up at 3 in the morning to answer a call of nature. I thought it was unusually quiet so I went to the nursing station and there they all were, completely zonked out in front of their PCs.

even BBC staff are allowed breaks during the day; if they're on a 12-hour shift (such things do exist), they're perfectly entitled to nap at their desks.
