I had passed a comment on the Netflix question asking if you had watched The Newsroom which was also written by Aaron Sorkin.

The Newsroom was also written by Aaron Sorkin. The man is a genius in my opinion. It only ran for three series but well worth watching and you will recognise his style straight away. Loved his cameo in the final episode of the West Wing. Thought it was a nice touch. Not sure if it on Netflix but well worth buying. Ask for it for Christmas. You will not be disappointed.

i think the West Wing the most funny, pithy, saddest programme ever to hit the small screen, i cried when it ended.

This is what rockyraccoon said about The Newsroom "Baker’s you just beat me to it. The Newsroom is probably the best show I’ve ever watched. The opening scene with Jeff Daniel’s character’s speech was sublime." Cannot praise it enough. I agree about the West Wing. The scene in the Cathedral when Mrs L died was so poignant.

I love the scene when Toby orders an honour guard for a war veteran, never ceases to make me well up.

Agree That was a lovely episode. Brilliant acting by Richard Schiff. Wasn't too sure when Lily Tomlin came in, even though I do like her as an actress, but she fitted in so well. Brilliant writing and casting. Will always remember CJ's comment at the end about building roads in deprived countries. So true.

too much to love and cry and laugh over, Josh getting shot, the love that Donna has for him all those years, the jokiness between Abbey and the President, i love it all and one day soon will watch it all again.

i have ordered it from Amazon, let's hope you and rocky are right, i don't normally buy this quick just on a couple of recommendations.
but i did buy the other day The Wonder Years, a truly memorable series from US about every day life and love, growing up, its an exceptional series and one worth buying.

Emmie I am positive you will love it. It's news, politics, will-they won't-they love stories and features real news stories so you can understand what's going on, and some of the funniest dialogue you could wish for. A gem. If you don't enjoy it I will be amazed.

As you are here Bakers, the reason I mentioned subtitles wasn't for people like yourself who obviously understand US politics. I lent the complete box set to a friend and every week she would ring me and ask questions. She used subs for about half a dozen episodes until she got the fast US accents and things she had never heard off.

Understood Sam. Did not understand all the politics of it myself to start with as the US system is so different to ours but really enjoyed it anyway.

We have watched West Wing three times and think it is probably the best written show ever. However, I thought the final series seemed to run out of ideas and when characters went missing with no explanation, I was a bit disappointed.

I think a lot depends on soon the writers know whether another series has been agreed. Sometimes they just have to end them as best they can.

Have only seen the occasional trailer and thought it looked good.

Yes Alba, that's the one. Trivia, when the series was in development there wasn't going to be a President cast. You would never see him/her, just mentioned by name.

Yes The West Wing is the one with Martin Sheen. The Newsroom has one of those slightly manic first episodes but it all makes sense by episode two. Some genius one-liners that make you laugh and loud and I have been known to punch the air a couple of times. Mr BD says I need to get more.
