Just had a call from BT offering to buy me out of my virgin contract, who admitely I want to leave when contracts up, BT is cheaper than I am paying at the moment to Virgin, apparently BT send me the equipment and I have to set it up 'gulp' and pay £9.99 for the privilege, has anyone done this.

As you don't have a BT contract, how do they know you have a Virgin contract. Check for scams.
I have to say this does sound like a scam
Looks straightforward enough

It MUST be plugged in to the telephone MASTER socket, not an extension

sapelsam I told them I am with Virgin but my contract doesn't end until September 2018 they said they can buy me out.
actually thinking about it...except when I went to BT infinity and the man put a new socket in, every router we have ever had has been set up by us.
I had to set the ( BT ) router and TV box up my self when I was with BT.
Very easy to do though.
Just because they SAY they are BT they may not be.

Like others I think this is some sort of scam, and I think it is NOT BT who have called you up.

Try contacting BT if you can (maybe an email) and double check they are ringing people with offers like this.
I would not touch BT with a stick. Terrible company.
I have always found them to be fine, david
I would also let Virgin know about this,Sounds a bit dodgy.
BT do have an offer to buy out existing contracts. However I think that it is done on the basis that you have to pay the, in your case Virgin, final bill that you will receive and send BT a copy. BT then deduct that amount from your payment schedule. I am with BT infinity and it is brilliant. I have set up 2 BT hubs in the last 12 months and it is pretty easy with the WPS automatic facility. I have a laptop, desktop, printer, sky box, 2 mobile phones and a music centre all connected to the hub. No problem. Everything we do with BT is online and we have no problems with the "service". We have colleagues and friends and neighbours who are variously with Talk Talk, Virgin, EE, Sky, and other providers and they seem to have nothing but bother.
