Don't the French broadcast in SECAM rather than PAL? You MAY need a multi-standard TV, depending in what format the satellite broadcasts are.

Satellite broadcasts are digital and the whole PAL/SECAM/NTSC question disappears as you go that way because those formats are analogue.
