I have asked this before but have never had a satisfying answer . Why does the BBC employ TWO people to read the news from a prompter each morning ? One says something & then looks at the other one to say a bit then back to the first one.

Not like the old dinner jacket and Queen's English days ! Maybe to make things more pleasing to the eye ..and ear...

I think that having two presenters breaks up the presentation and makes it less intense for the viewer.

I'm sure there are reasons as all Channels do it - see if they will answer you direct Ron.

Maybe it is so they can do longer stints. I have noticed that at times, certainly on sky, there is only one. So presumably the other has nipped to the bog?

The probable response is that this has been the norm in American news shows for decades, and having tried it, the BBC have found, or decided, that it works well.

Once transvestism becomes more accepted by the viewing public this fad will disappear.

BBC Midlands Today tried having two presenters (Nick Owen and Mary Rhodes), but quickly abandoned the idea. The equivalent programme on ITV, though, continues with two presenters. No reason why one person can't manage alone.

It's because most viewers have a limited attention span and tend to turn over if they have to look at one person for any length of time.

Though it was to make the news look and sound like a conversation between people .

It is not only the BBC, they all seem to manage with one for the late news.

Another strange thing is the fact that when they hand over to an outside reporter, why do they actually have to be at that location?

The report could be made in the studio, say with a back drop of the White House behind them for example.
