I have asked this before but have never had a satisfying answer . Why does the BBC employ TWO people to read the news from a prompter each morning ? One says something & then looks at the other one to say a bit then back to the first one.

It is not only the BBC, they all seem to manage with one for the late news.
Another strange thing is the fact that when they hand over to an outside reporter, why do they actually have to be at that location?
The report could be made in the studio, say with a back drop of the White House behind them for example.
