The Handmaid’S Tale … Information For Anyone Who’S Interested
171 Answers
If anyone is, like me, itching to read the book but reluctant to do so because they don’t want to spoil the television series for themselves ….. good news. I am reliably informed that the book covers only the first series …. so we won’t know the real ending until we’ve watched the complete production. Buying the book as we speak!!

Ok they can gloss over how and why Offred was 'rescued' from the house. Maybe the informations on this will trickly out maybe not. However, I cannot come to terms with the execution of Eden Females of reproductive age are valuable to Gilead why kill a potential mother of many children? Why not send her to be a handmaiden? The scenes with Emily and Commander Lawrence boarded on Hammer Horror, though I think I can see where they are going with this: Is the Commander a true believer or does he support MayDay?
I wonder which would have been worse for Eden, death or the life, if you can call it that, of a handmaid? But Yes, the overriding factor should have been that she was a fertile female and therefore of value to Gilead, alive. I'm still in shock at Serena allowing Offred to breastfeed baby Holly. Was it for the baby's sake or another reason?
The scenes between Offred and Fred were riveting as were those between the handmaid(?) we saw being introduced to her new family. The sense of dread was overpowering for me.

I’m still confused over the rescue, and as you’ve said, Eden’s execution, but they have executed young women who could presumably have been used as Handmaids, before. I get the impression, although probably wrong again, that Commander Lawrence may well be working for the other side. He’s certainly trying to keep his wife quiet – and he got rid of Aunt Lydia rather sharpish. Fred and Nick are definitely close – I know not for what reason – and I can’t work out what Serena is up to. One minute she was saying ‘Don’t let her near my baby’ … and the next she allows Offred to feed Holly and sits there smiling benignly. Last episode of this series next week, isn’t it?
Maybe Serena Joy remembers what happened to Janine's baby when they were seperated. Maybe she is worried Holly will not thrive without Offred there until weaning. I'm not looking forward to the last episode mainly because I know it will be a cliffhanger and we'll have to wait until next year for series three!
Well I have just watched this weeks episode and oh my!
I think Eden was killed because she hadn't fallen pregnant and therefore could not become a handmaid. Had she renounced her sins then she probably would have been sent to the colonies.
As for OfFred I think she was allowed to feed Holly/Nicole for 2 reasons - Serena felt guilt over Eden and she realised that the reason that Holly/Nicole was fussing so much was because she needed OfFred's milk direct not via a bottle.

They seem to be trying to cram too many thing in in the last few episodes.
For plot purposes, killing Eden helps Serena understand the dangers ‘her daughter’ is in just for being female. You can see a change has been happening to Serena over the weeks and almost get the feeling she is flip flopping between being a good Gileadian and knowing it is wrong.
There is a build up and I think Serena will help get Offred and the baby out. How she herself will fair is anyone’s guess at the moment.
There are times when you warm to Aunt Lydia and you see glimpses of humanity and it's almost as if she believes the tripe she spouts... even though she lived before the war, but whatever is coming changes her so that she is harsher than she has ever been.

My OH thinks it’s boring... how could lol
How did they plan the escape so quickly? Basically all done in one day.
I imagine the way they got her from garden to garden is pretty much how you’d have to do it but it would mean that someone from nearly every house was in on it. Could that really have been kept quiet?

OMG the rest of my post disappeared...here goes
But for the record: Aunt Lydia did not deserve that!.
The escape was not set up in a day, it had been bubbling up through the MayDay network with the Marthas at the front line. Emily was sent to Captain Lawrence on purpose as Mayday knew Offed would trust her. She obviously was not 'in on it' as she thought the Captain was taking her to her death. Aunt Lydia's attack is a bit of a mystery other than the history between emily and her, but its a cliffhanger for the next series I'm sure. I'd realised what Offred was going to do with the baby when she tucked the picture of her older sister into her clothes. It was a great ending and can't wait for series 3!!
PS my OH was banned from commenting and eventually banned from the living room while it was on. However liberated they may be I seriously think they just 'don't get it'. " Why 's she doing that " , "just get a sledgehammer", " for *******sake", " get in the ****car" ect! ect!
Great series, original content, more like this please!

//Offred whacking Fred //
Oh yes!!! Go girl!!
My husband watches Handmaid - he calls that determined look Offred uses to stare at the camera, her demonic face - but I know what you mean. He was unceremoniously ejected from the sitting room when Harry was marrying Meghan. "Someone's old lace curtain on her head..." Pah!!

I think Emily killed lydia because of the comment Lydia made about cutting something out/off and that tipped her over the edge. I liked Emily's commandor.
So glad Serena let Holly/June go - I think Fred punishing Serena in that manner has just sealed his own fate.
The slap that June gave Fred was brilliant. Nick will be punished though for his part in it - as it was obvious why he was keeping Fred indoors.
Can't wait for the next series
