Amazing that some of those saying 'yes' will one day be over 75 themselves, I wonder if they would say 'yes' then?
Yes it would, you should not just get something free because you’re old, not if you are in the position to pay for it without hardship.

I'm out of here, I refuse to waste my time answering, while this present 'I hate AOG' is on duty.
There should definitely be some discount for the over 75s.
????
NO .the licence should remain free for those over 75, many of those I know stretch their pensions to get out during the day but the evenings and winter restricts them from going out and the telly is their entertainment, do you miserable self opinionated posters begrudge them an evening of repeats ?
I think most over 75s could pay a reduced amount. Say £50 per year.
They should scrap them for everyone.
The government already collects a public kitty to pay for services to the community.
No free license for those on general benefits as one poster suggested but for those seniors on state pension and pension credit only. They could even have it from state pension age. Ideally I would prefer no fee at all, but with full independence I.e no government appointed director general.

I think the licence should be free for over 75 s. I have worked all my life, paid NI contributions and income tax. So why not?
I posted on this earlier and, having charged my iPad, have just
read through the posts. Sadly, dannyk13 has exposed my ignorance. I assumed that anyone, with only the state pension to live on, received some sort of benefits such as reduced council tax etc. I now agree with dannyk13. Anyone living on the state pension alone could not easily afford the TV licence.
