Is The Uk The Most Wonderful Country On Earth?
27 Answers
Just been watching UK border force and the sheer variance of ruses and tricks used by so many to come here are a real eye opener. So wonderful must it be that so many want to come and stay. Why do mankind seek to build utopia when it already exists right here?

/// A legacy of empire? ///
Strange how they wanted to kick the British out, and then chose to come and live amongst us in our country.
Perhaps it is time that we sought our independence and perhaps then the anti-British could then join them in foreign climes.

I know I don't usually bother with reasoned arguments, but here goes.
Ano the old git.
sandyRoe has a point, of course. Anglophone they may be, and the various 'white' countries (UK, Canada, US, Australia, etc)., may be first-choice destinations for poorer people looking to improve their lots, but consider one of the prime (possibly THE prime) reason why these 'white' countries are so darned rich! Which is, as sandyRoe alludes, empire.
We didn't take over much of the world to do it favours, ano, we did it to enrich ourselves (or rather the merchants and their lackies), and a pretty good job we made of it.
Result: those massive bits of the world we once ruled/exploited are now denuded of natural resources and development, and their poorer citizens who (how dare they?) look for a better life naturally turn their gaze to the places where all their natural wealth went in the first place!
Or am I wasting my time?
