It would take wild dinosaurs to make me miss this. Alf Wight used to travel from Thirsk to attend to a cousin of mine's herd. I thought that was amazing because it was a longish way. Preceding the premier is 'The Yorkshire Vet' and Peter, chief vet at Thirsk, was trained by Wight. Casting looks good. Hopes high........ ....... this is, of course always a bad omen....

Brill! Just finished watching. Tim West is a cross between Robert Hardy and James Robertson Justice as Sir Lancelot Spratt. Will definitely be watching again. My heart melts at the scenery .... you can take the lass out of Yorkshire etc.. Interesting that they used Grassington and not Thirsk as a setting.
Well it seems it was a success. I've recorded it too, wanted to watch it 'live', but something cropped up so I couldn't. I too loved the old series, apart from when he had his hand and arm up a cow's backside! Yorkshire is a lovely part of the world so seeing all the scenery is a must too. I loved the original books as well barry. Thank you all for your replies.
Exactly the sort of programme Channel 5 are excelling at lately. I thoroughly enjoyed it - was really well cast, scenery beautiful and overall a great remake that I thought couldn’t ever happen. The only thing missing is the iconic music from the original series but that’s just nit picking - sorry!
I’d give it 4.6 out of 10.

I gave it a try, I loved the original series and it's also fresh in my mind because it was on Drama channel (or something) every night at about 6ish only last year, watched the whole thing. To be fair I was quite impressed, really liked the Siegfried character although it's difficult not to compare, Helen for example in the TV series was a bit more 'posh' but I think they've kept to the era really well (before it started I said to my OH I wonder if it will have lots of sex and swearing in to make it more popular!!).
Will definitely continue watching - I didn't notice the incidental music but the theme tune at the end with the credits was exactly the same as the original.

Have never watched ACG&S before, but decided to give it a go. Still wondering how this young man was kicked backwards twice by a horse and landed in the mud and also had his arm up a cow to deliver a calf, and each time, managed to look like he had just stepped out of a shower and into clean clothes. Not very realistic.
