My parents had stayed there and they thought it would be a good idea for me to experience rural life. I loved it from the start and continued to holiday there with a wonderful family until 1991. We were friends from the start and I learnt so much about farming and rural life. I learnt how to milk cows, drive tractors, helped at lambing and much more. That all started from a visit in the late 60s. I have been to Devon every year since and I stayed in touch with the farmer and his wife when they retired into the village. Sadly, they both passed away over the last five years, but I have kept in touch with their children. For me, life on the farm was wonderful and I gained a real love for the countryside. Farming is hard and it taught me to have a respect for farmers, who work all year round to keep us fed. I have to say that I find the programme very emotional as it brings back so many happy memories.
Its great to actually see children out in the fresh air and yes i do understand that there isnt places for them to go to on their doorstep. They are bringing their children up by involving them in everyday farming life, thats births and deaths which is part of it but by allowing them to learn and give them jobs on the farm. I think its a brilliant show and long may it continue
