What requirements will Channel 4 be looking for in their new host, do you think?

How about guest presenters, like on Have I Got News For You?

Even better, Angus Deayton!

I think Richard Osman would be an obvious candidate but he’s likely to be the wrong gender and ethnicity for Channel 4 today
Gness, As a Countdown addict I still miss Richard Whitely

I liked him too with his custard creams, I once not noticing ran between him and Carol in Leeds/Bradford airport desperate for a flight... I was later told by the lady I was with at the time what I'd done... I did apologise as I ran past /through them.
The difficulty is going to be pleasing the demographic audience, which tends to be the senior end of the scale.

That lets out any edgy modern comedians of either gender, so it will probably be a similarly senior presenter.

That said, I would not have said Colin Murray for one second, so who knows how the powers-that-be think?

Not an issue for me, I don't watch it, but Cats Does Countdown is wonderful.
Oh, I thinks Cats Does Countdown is awful. When I saw the first episode, however many years ago, I thought it was a one-off joke for a charity event. I felt embarrassed for Susie.

I think Osman would be far too busy. He does two shows already plus his writing and other panel game appearances.
Richard Osman would have been ideal once. Far too busy now I guess.

Loved his humour, Arky and have you noticed how infrequently "leotard" comes up since he died?... :-)
Susan Calman, Bobbiesox, I was too lazy to look it up before!
As I have now read Nick Hewer will quit when his contract concludes next year then a new long term host will be required.I agree Dan Walker would be good but he’s tied into BBC.I know he’s not everybody’s favourite but how about Philip Schofield?

Schofe does crucially tick a box now, but doubtful he’d ever move off mainstream ITV until he has to
please not phillip s ,he's on loads of things ,give someone else a chance
would have thought that he had enough on his plate
Hope it isn't Gyles Brandreth - much as he entertains me he is far too talky to be host. I hope it won't be Carol Vorderman!
If only Nicholas Parsons were still with us.
Hopefully someone sensible. I'd hate to see Countdown turned into one of those hysterical screaming matches we're so often 'treated' to.

its why i said someone with Nous, there must be a good host out there, pity that Nick is hanging up his stocking.
Please not Keith Lemon.
too weird..
