Channel 5 promos proclaiming Home Alone as “the greatest Christmas movie ever made”. Do you agree and, if not, what would be your choice?

It's a Wonderful Life and Love Actually - although I wish they hadn't included the porn actors' story in Love Actually. It's a great film that leaves everyone smiling but those scenes make it unsuitable for children.

Lost Christmas starring Eddie Izzard

dunno what version of die hard PP watched, there is no trying to get into bed with anyone, not even his wife played by Bonnie Bedelia.
Elf. It still makes me laugh.
couldn't get on with that, then again i don't care for most Christmas movies, tv.
i loved seeing Its a Wonderful Life at a Cinema, seeing it on the big screen was something special.
My favourite is The Wizard of Oz. I always associate it with Christmas as it was shown at that time every year when I was a child.
i have that on dvd but have watched it when its been shown on terrestrial tv. I love Judy Garland in anything

Love Actually is a brilliant film. I always she a tear at the God Only Knows ending.
It's a Wonderful Life is in the public domain, because they forgot to renew the copyright years ago. This means anyone can screen it any time but it is likeliest to be shown around Christmas, when channels have space to fill, without having to pay for it. Which is how it became so widely known: because its owners forgot about it.
Don't bother with films as I usually fall asleep before the end - in fact I've never yet managed to see the end of Wizard of Oz! I've never seen past where she goes to visit the Wizard so no idea how he gets her home again.
Love Actually
Thank you for that BD, will definitely watch it on Christmas Eve now. Thought it wouldn't be on again!
Glad you came back to to the thread. Enjoy.

Love Actually.... I agree, naomi. If a "Christmas film" is one you would watch on Christmas day with the whole family... then for us, it would probably be a Pixar film.
Even without the porn theres still a lot of swearing I it
i have never thought Love Actually suitable for a family, because its got sex scenes, and swearing in it, unless they take those out to show it at Christmas.
my sil bought a copy and was going to watch it with the grand children, until we pointed out those scenes that may not be appropriate.
I love the film by the way.
Love actually is a good film I was coaxed into watching it after being so dismissive. For me though it has to be The Muppet Christmas Carol... Rizzo and Gonzo are so funny.
