Nursed a patient from a fundamentalist Christian sect who wouldn't accept a transplant unless it could be guaranteed to come from a white man, anything else would diminish him in the face of god, We couldn't transplant, he died leaving a huge family. We hoped when he became unconscious his wife would tell us to go ahead but she was more afraid of the elders who took turns sitting with the family. If we asked them to give her time alone with her husband. It was 'come sister' and she followed them out the door
rowan, I know its difficult but for whatever reason your patient had made his choice and IMO it wouldn't have been right for his wife to countermand it. Religion was not involved but when my husband was dying, he made decisions that I would not have made. He was very clear with me that I was NOT to change those when he was no longer able.
Jewish people seem to live a bubble. I live near Prestwich in Manchester, a large Jewish area. But it's a nightmare driving through those streets, especially if you drive there on Friday or Saturday. The Jewish people never look up. They just walk into the road with their children. And they look at you as if you shouldn't be there, shouting at you sometimes. You have to be really wary when driving round there
He refused, and wasn't treated, chances are he would have had a white male donor but he wanted a guarantee that the surgeons just couldn't give. I wouldn't have a transplant or be a donor but that is my decision, all I am saying extreme religion can override what would be seen by many as logical courses of action.
