the story of James Hunt and Niki Lauder's title challenge in the 1976 Formula 1. What a brilliant film, hadn't heard of it before. Even though I knew the outcome it was still edge of the seat stuff and very emotional right at the end. Haven't enjoyed a film so much for a long time.
Well done, yes indeed Peter Collins won in Poland and in 1977 I was lucky enough to see him ride in Gothenburg where despite having a broken leg he finished second to Ivan Mauger.
I remember when Speedway was on the tv regularly. Always got to stay up late to watch the evening meets. Like TonyAV, i remember Ivan Mauger, also, Mike Broadbank, Barry Brooks, Ole Olsen. Also two brothers whose names escape me.
Although I have no interest in Motor Sport, I found the Film 'Rush' really captivating. Good Acting and although the outcome was of course known, still gripping stuff.
And excellent film, indeed, APG. From an era when Grand Prix was actually an exciting sport, rather than a game of chess on wheels. Having watched highlights of the opening race of the season, dare we, i ask myself, hope that this could be one of the best seasons in recent history?
The bit where they were removing the bandages from Niki Lauder's head after the crash made my stomach churn! I'm still amazed that he was passed fit to drive on his return though - surely wouldn't happen today.
We travelled on the ferry to Sweden and Ivan Mauger's mum was on board - she took some stick from the other supporters but she had the last laugh on the return journey!
Ken I think you mean Barry Briggs! Peter Collins had four brothers who all rode - Les, Phil, Stephen and Neil.
My favourite rider was Gordon Kennett and he had two brothers who rode as well, Barney and Dave. Gordon was runner up to the world champion Ole Olsen at Wembley in 1978.
