I was trying very hard to try and follow the recent variant that has been rising in uk. But it seems to have been either censored maybe from the government. Looking into deeper found this guardian article and explained why very little news on the new variant x.

I had intentional used X here to avoid being censored. I kind of agree not to use countries name, it is a sensitive word.

dave, provided Boris and the scientists don't change their minds...

Boris and his teams won't be able to fool the public this time.
yeah yeah Covid virus is taken in by Boris' rhetoric
gullible it is
righto as TTT so often says
If you are struggling about what to call the variant simply use - B.1.617.2.
// PHE will publish this data in due course.”
• This article was amended on 23 May 2021.//

that quote is from the Guardian article.
The article is about censorinng data
and we have an example of "-oopsie got that one wrong - we need a re-write"
It is quite possible this happened with PHE data - getting it wrong is something they specialise in
and they took it out whilst the scribblers rescribbled
... yes mama
and the numbers bit is to get over the place-name bit
and also I think - give the amino acid number mutation

617 is not the 617th mutation but the point at which it has occurred
I think
Searching google for "Indian Variant " turns up over 16 million results so I'd say the suppression isn't working.

It's natural that we refer to things as for where they are from or first seen and that's unlikely to change without legalisation. More likely, as Covid 19 becomes more 'flu' like in terms of how we live with live with it worldwide, the reporting will mature such that variants and daily deaths are no longer "news", this can't come quickly enough in my book.
