I was trying very hard to try and follow the recent variant that has been rising in uk. But it seems to have been either censored maybe from the government. Looking into deeper found this guardian article and explained why very little news on the new variant x.

Searching google for "Indian Variant " turns up over 16 million results so I'd say the suppression isn't working.
It's natural that we refer to things as for where they are from or first seen and that's unlikely to change without legalisation. More likely, as Covid 19 becomes more 'flu' like in terms of how we live with live with it worldwide, the reporting will mature such that variants and daily deaths are no longer "news", this can't come quickly enough in my book.
