they are deluded if they think they have any control over what their citzens watch on TV.
they're not stopping anyone watching, just removing the financial benefits of calling them European productions - which means they may find it more difficult to raise finance. The aim is to defend European languages, and since Brexit, British producers can hardly complain that they're really still European.
Britsin is still in Europe so British producers are still European, just not in the EU.
I smell bulls*it.
// Brussels’ target this time is the continuing definition of British programmes and film as being “European works”.
Under the EU’s audiovisual media services directive, a majority of airtime must be given to such European content on terrestrial television and it must make up at least 30% of the number of titles on video on demand (VOD) platforms such as Netflix and Amazon. //

We are out of the EU so UK made content cannot be classed as EU content. The idea of the EU Directive is to keep out too much US content.
If we continue to make great viewable content, then the whole world will continue to watch, not just the rest of Europe.
With the quality of most Brit Tv shows , who can blame them.
Just as long as we don't have to watch the garbage they turn out.
I wonder, are films from Norway or Switzerland thought of as "European"?
Oh come on Togo, some of those "Scando dramas" are superb.
I can't get on with the subtitles.

British TV and film is of a remarkably high standard. We are really good at creative arts whether it is music, theatre, television, film, photography, painting, sculpture or writing.
Our artistic endeavours adds £billions to our GDP, and should be celebrated as our great cultural prowess.
I agree with that, Sunk.
Togo: There is some really great EU/Europe content.
kardashev: Nearly everything is available dubbed.
If the quality of British shows are so bad why would they need to reduce the number shown. If they are that bad people wouldn't want to watch them. The fact that they seem to be watching them can only mean either they like them or the other stuff they show in the EU is worse.

//Some countries such as France have gone even further, with a 60 per cent quota for video on demand platforms and demanding 15 per cent of their turnover is spent in the production of European projects.//

Guess Netflix and Amazon Prime will be departing their shores then. They want profit pure and simple if restricted like that and profit is diminished they will pull the plug.
Yes YMB and EUSSR citizens can access their content anyway all they have to do is make it look like they are signed on from somewhere else! It illustrates to me the underlying protectionist communism in the EUSSR, it'll either destroy itself or turn in the actual USSR.
Non British EUSSR TV is not much cop anyway so people will be watching the US/British content no matter what they do.
Bet the E/U viewers watching any U/K TV, are glad they have not got to pay £159 P/A to Watch such Carp
Gulliver, there are plenty of superb programmes on UK television.
^^^ you can say Crap if you want to :0)
