Annoying Films

why do they do it? I just watched the tomorrow war. i spent 2 hrs turning the volume up then down. In order to hear them talking i had to have the volume on about 40, then they would cut to action and the volume needed to be at least half that. why cant everything just be at the same volume??? it really spoilt the film

I find its the same for so many series and dramas also. Too often I give up because I lose the plot while concentrating on the volume and not the story.

Most modern TV sets have an option to bring the highs and lows of the volume range closer together. Other devices, such as set-top boxes or PVRs, might also have that facility available. (By coincidence, I adjusted that setting on my Now TV stick only about an hour ago).

When I am doing Oxfam work on my main Laptop I watch catch-up TV and YouTube on my Chromebook.

I am forever twiddling with the sound and, living in a flat I am concerned that it might be too loud late at night.

I have just watched a short film on Channel 5 which was about a Gay Pig, It was a short film and was very good, but probably quite loud, Edmund the Magnificent.

If I sweitch from Sky to the digital channel the difference is immense, the Sky sound is so much quieter.

Having just bought a new HD TV, I've noticed that the picture is sharper on some channels - for example, in general ITV is better than BBC. I think it might be to do with the 'multiplexes' that the channels are bundled into, which Buenchico has explained a few times.

No sound problems, though - new TV SO much better than the last one!

I do exactly the same - and not just with films. When an audience starts to applaud it can be deafening!

My tv has a 'speech' setting which, unsurprisingly, enhances speak and reduces background noise. The sound quality is still excellent and nobody notices anything odd about the sound output - unless I want to listen to music then I have to change the setting to 'music'.
It only takes a few seconds but makes a huge difference.

I sometimes use headphones to a) enhance the listening experience and b) avoid upsetting the neighbours.

Those that can't adjust their audio settings adequately should condsider buying a good quality soundbar that offers a variety of settings and controls.
It can make a huge difference.

i have the choice of
standard news music cinema sport game or user setting for sound mode - which one might i want?

bednobs, my Virgin box is a TV360 and I've just check the audio settings - there is no facilty to adjust the audio mode.

As for your tv settings you could try 'user' and turn the treble up and the bass down. Have a fiddle when a 'noisy' film is on and see if you can find a setting that suits. Note the default settings before you change anything, though, so you can easily change them back.
