Is anybody watching this? I remember watching it live when we came home from the office, at lunch time, we were horrified.

It was one of those pivotal historical moments where we will forever remember where we were when we heard.
I was living in South Africa. My husband was working in Channel Islands. I got a phone call from mr brother saying turn on telly - I genuinely thought he was joking as it seemed impossible. My husband meanwhile said the entire crew in jersey had downed tools n just were glued to any screen / radio etc they had

i watched the ITV one last night and was very surprised to see footage/voice clips i hadnt seen/heard before - i thought i'd seen it all over the years.
I did find myself shouting at the telly a couple of times, trying to tell people to move faster.
for me, although it hasn't lost it's impact, at least i can actually watch programs like this now without feeling so bad, whereas before it was much more difficult.
The BBC1 one was also excellent

Light bulb moment
such as what one was doing on hearing President Kennedy had been shot.
( sitting in a changing room with a child called d'ambrumenil and the Latin master, ( of course ) Mr Golding who was a stressed out solicitor)
I was flying back ( solo!) from Otopenyi Airport ( Hungary that is, and I wasnt that hungry to get on) and it was on all the airport monitors. I asked if it were Airport the film and they said no

the inquiry n all has accepted that two Saffy and the adult lad died from slow and absent care. The inquiry chair has basically said that he has to accept the evidence ( after one round of 'are you sure" and "is this true?")
[I think any repeat in Manchester and half the population will storm the barricades and give first said - shouting to the idle care services "go and drink tea!"]

The first plane hit the tower just before 9am Eastern Standard time. I was in Alberta which is Mountain Time, 3 hours behind EST, so we woke up to Breakfast news of the horrors. I remember watching a CNN reporter placed over the river from the burning towers, and Tower 1 literally sank to the ground live on his report. We were going to the Rockies for the weekend as we had family visiting and I had a 5-month-old baby. It was shocking, sad, and we really did not know at this point if this could be the start of another world war.
the craziest plonkerish thing that I saw came the following Saturday afternoon.
I had stayed in the Chester area and drove down south in the morning, stopping at a very close friend's place near Abingdon for lunch - and then into London to stay overnight before my plane back to the States on Sunday..... Driving down the Cromwell Road - the streets very empty of traffic and people, about 4.30pm, what do I see but an Arab walking down the street near the Hospital... and dressed in his white thobe and the rest. My immediate thought was 'you idiot - you are asking to be shot by some vigilante.'

Sitting in our lower ground floor kitchen-diner. Daughter had just gotten in from school and was upstairs in the lounge. Suddenly she came flying down the stairs, shouting " mum, the tower in New York has been hit by a plane!"
