And i have to say, after all the hype, i am quite disappointed. Almost nothing happens; what little does happen all takes place on the same little terraced street. I found the film to be very pedestrian and were it not for the soundtrack - supplied mainly by Van Morrison - i honestly don't think i would have watched to the end.

Thanks for the warning, I'm a Van-free area.
That’s a pity Ken. It’s very disappointing we are taken in with all the hype. I’ll watch it when I can though .
I haven't watched it either - friend said it was just ok. But from the trailers I have seen absolutely nothing like the real Belfast in real 1969 times.
Well I for one loved the film. It showed what life was like on a day to day basis for the ordinary people who had to live through such desperate times. If nothing else it showed the futility of "war".

That's just it, Maggie, it didn't. There was a bit of a scuffle, there was a Catholic family being turned out of their house, a catholic owned supermarket being looted and the elder of the two brothers was being coerced into 'running errands' for the local Protestant faction. But there wasn't nearly enough of this. Much of the film was given over to the young 'Buddy'; his relationship with his family and his pursuit of enough of a high score to sit next to the girl in class. As i said, nothing happened. In my most humble of opinions, as per usual.

If you're a theatre-goer, I suggest steering well clear of Samuel Beckett's masterpiece, 'Waiting for Godot', then ;-)
Especially the production in Erse.

Douglas, so limited were the number of 'sets' in this film, it could well have been a theatre production:-(
Apparently in the business they say of Van Morrison there are two types of people.

Those that like him, and those that have met him.
Question Author
Never met the man so i can't say whether or not i like 'him'. However, i do like many of his songs.
