Heroin addict

Bit of a long shot this one. Does anyone remember a documentary advertised on C4 about a black American journalist who was investigating the lives of heroin addicts? He decided to try the drug himself to get a better perspective on the whole lifestyle and unfortunately he became addicted himself and the focus of the documentary turned to his degeneration over a number of years. Does anyone remember it or know his name/ a website etc?
