TTT - // Unforgiven. Now I am a huge fan of Clint Eastwood normally but I just can't fathom why this film is considered a good film. Essentially the entire plot is based on a prostitute laughs at the dimensions of one of her punters equipment and the punters subsequent reaction, that's it. //
Can't agree with you there.
That's the set-up, but the bigger picture (literally) is about redemption and justice in a hard and cruel world.
I loved it.

maggie - // Could never understand all the hype about Brief Encounter. Having said that, it was made in 1945 when the world was very different. //
Exactly - it's because it was so 'out there' for the time in which it was made, that makes is to mesmerizing.
The notion of a woman on the verge of infidelity in those days would have been seriously shocking.
It hasn't dated tirribly tirribly well, but I still love it.

I entirely agree, I have never seen the appeal of this film.
Even allowing for its age, when film techniques were a lot different - the plot is so wet and warm you could bath a baby in it, the editing is clunky, the script is dreadful, the dialogue is all shouted, and the over-acting is endemic throughout.
I have only seen it once, and that was once too often.
It's possibly only beaten in my most contemptible pieces of celluloid by South Pacific - a plotless homo-erotic load of pap with forgettable songs and no story.
