Just watched this film on BBC2.
So being on BBC2, surely no ads, but I'm sure a few scenes were cut. This film apparently ran for 2 hrs. But the original ran for 2 hrs 3 mins. Admittedly I missed the first 1/2hr. So I wonder if there were scenes cut?

The best cutting they could have done with this film was just before it started, and just after it ended.

A more pointless, hyped, and OTT film than that I did not see for a very long time.

Sorry, where in my thread did I ask for an opinion?
piggy - // You don't always ask for what you get on any thread, or indeed don't ask for, you've been around long enough to know that.
you are entitled to your opinion, andy, but that's rather crass to those of us who have linkages through to the film - in my case, quite a few, not least having studied at st A, the church near North Berwick for the football scene, and that my closet friend from Uni's old man was on the Clare and Cambridge team with Harold Abrahams, he a freshman when Abrahams was a senior. This, never mind many familiar backdrop scenes.

Happy Christmas and far better this film than some garbage like Home Alone #35 or Paddington in Marmalade 29.

I am indeed entitled to my opinion, and it cannot be curtailed or censored on the basis of any amount of unknown connections to any film thus criticised.

I am sure that my intense dislike of this film does not really impact on your happy memories of the areas in which it was filmed, or connections to events it portrayed.
A brilliant film that had a great impact on the slumbering(at the time) British movie industry.
It got Warner Bros it’s first Oscar for Best Picture in 17 years.
Not sure how someone develops an ‘intense dislike’ for a film though, sounds awfully dramatic?
Agree 100% daveinscotland. Unless someones forced to watch it many tines against there will surely if your not Keen you just watch something else or go on AB or something or talk to peopke
Now we know what to taunt Andy with this evening....

Room 101 then. :-)
Fantastic film full of power and emotion highlights the will to win doesn't come easy.
One of the great films.
Dodi Fayed did something right..
Dave at 20.15 - long-standing AB'ers will know well that I hold strong opinions on just about anything, especially art's, specifically music which is both my passion and my profession.

Film does not feature as strongly, but I still very much enjoy cinema, and conversely can hold equally strong opinions about films I have seriously disliked over the years.

My dislike of this film had only ever been reinforced by the adulation and reverence it has received with the passing of time.

But part of the enjoyment or not of any art form us holding an opinion directly opposed to varying numbers of supporters.

Occasionally, someone may offer a perspective that may cause me to amend, or even completely reassess my view.

That has never happened with this film, and I very much doubt it ever will.
I know Andy, I’ve actually been here 20 years.
Just thought the intense bit was a bit…..intense?
I’d rate films brilliant, great, not bad average or not very good. Dislike intensely wouldn’t come into the reasoning, I’d just switch it off. Each to their own.
Indeed Dave, I know I am usually the exception in taking trivial things too much to heart.

We are supposed to mellow as we get older, I'm getting worse!!
You have a lot to contend with on here tbf.
Thank you Dave!!
it may be as wolf says, IMDb, which tends to default to US films, lists it as 125 minutes. But the version released in Britain was 121 minutes.

Where was I? Oh yeh talking about the editing of one of my fave films.
I've seen this film about 5 times, but on Friday or whatever day it was I watched it on a huge screen in a hotel. Different animal, just a pity it had been edited big time!! It felt almost 3d it was such high quality imagery.
Got to be up there with the cinema greats!
