Just say'in.. TTT's avatar on my screen looks like a caveman (long dark hair and a thick bushy beard..!?), finding the depth of 'quiz knowledge' being shown here came as a surprise! - depth of knowledge vs shallow broad knowledge of many subjects.. as JimF and others have pointed out General Knowledge can apply to a vast almost unlimited sphere of knowing,...

I wonder where I would fit in this discussion of intellect, because I don't listen to modern music, will occasionally see a name, I discovered a couple of months ago that Taylor Swift isn't a man!

Some people are thick though ... and a tad embarrassing ...

//On a general knowledge quiz show, it would be common enough to know which actor played Adam Pontipee in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, or the best-known song from it, just as it would be to know who directed The Seven Samurai, and which Western was based on it.//

OK mate. Pmsl.

22:39 Not quite sure why you are wetting yourself. Are you honestly saying that you wouldn't have known the answers to these questions?

I'd be interested to hear what the best-known song from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is.

1 Howard Keel, though may be better know for Dallas
2) Bless Your Beautiful Hide
3) Akira Kurasawa
4) The Magnificent Seven

I haven't seen that episode of the Chase yet, but I don't think that answer is too terrible. I'm not a film buff so I don't the answer. I am not thick. It annoys me more when they pass where there is a valid guess to be made.

Tell you what, I'll ask you a few questions I guarantee you won't know the answer to and then call you a moron when you can't answer them. How about that?

That's true, unlike on Mastermind where the pass "rule" [sic] is just an embarrassment.

for me it's Going Courting or Spring Spring Spring.

Kurosawa also directed Yojimbo, which A Fistful of Dollars was based on, so an easy mistake for an Eastern Western fan to make.

22:52 So long as they are reasonably general knowledge, as mine were, go for it.

22:53 You are of course correct - I was just starting from the hilarious post "Seven Brides for Seven Samurai"

Mastermind scares me to death, even the music is scary

Sit me on that chair in the spotlight and I would probably forget what my name is.

No doubt, but so often people have won because they have given made-up nonsense when they didn't know the answer.

The pass rule on Mastermind is awkward. If I were on there (which I will never be) I'd say 'potatoes' instead of 'pass', just in case my score was equal to someone else's.

Many Kurosawa films have been remade. Rashomon was remade as a western, The Hidden Fortress was a huge inspiration on George Lucas for Star Wars and Ikiru was remade last year as the Bill Nighy starring Living.

Mastermind is different from other quizzes because the questions are timed so that when asked and with the correct answer, in theory at least, each contestant is asked the same number of questions.

That is why the questions cannot be interrupted and some of them seem to be padded out.

Many Kurosawa films have been remade

very true, Mozz, but these are just the two that got a mention in the OP.

I would have thought a genius of TTT's calibre would have pulled me for 'rediculous'  but he hasn't. 🤔

Just a thought... I think I am right in saying  that all the  actors that appeared on  screen are now dead, the  last being Rosenda Monteros (Petra I think her name was in the film). Again from memory, didn't John Sturgess direct and produce The Magnificent Seven-it takes about 50 people to do those two jobs on modern films!!
