does anyone have any info on the reaction to rhett butler's final farewell (frankly my dear i dont give a damn)? i know it was considered outrageous but why was it allowed to remain in the film? thanks in advance!

In the 1930s dam was regarded as a provocative word so to get round it Clark Gable had to put the emphasis on the word give so it became' Frankly my dear, I don't GIVE a dam'

I think David O Selznick (the film's producer) paid the fine,but somehow the line remained.

i think originaly he said "i dont give a bloody dam" then the bloody was removed and the line stayed in as it is now a real classic
