I would like to express my disappointment at the insult to Christians at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 olympics. Allowing a group of drag artists to parody the Last Supper was disgusting.  Wouldn't have dared parody muslims!!

No, parody Christians and not a hair is turned. Parody muslims and there would have been a riot.  Very poor taste IMO and whoever sanctioned it should be sacked.

Parodying women is becoming normalised, too.

I can't wait until the world returns to its' collective senses.

I find it hilarious that people who usually couldn't give a monkeys about religion are all of a sudden offended by a few drag queens.

Was the opening ceremony rubbish? Yes.

Was it offensive? Not to me at least. I just turned it of.

I didn't see it, but I've heard about it. I'm surprised t.b.h.. France is a secular country - but this was rather too much and is very upsetting.

All I would say is that I would like this group of drag artists to walk down Manningham Lane in Bradford (my Grandma used to live there in the 1950s) and simply chant 'Mohammed was a paedophile.'

The results would be interesting, I think.

I doubt many/most people are bothered about it, it's was all just part of the opening ceremony and probably not even on most people's radar.

Vagus, I think it's on quite a few radars.  It's going round the world and friends in Malta and the USA have commented on this.

Ok Maggie, if you say so. I'm not religeous and I'm guessing many others aren't, so it just doesn't matter to me and them. And I think we're probably in the majority. I have lots more things to be worried or concerned about.

I am a Christian and not offended

Not amused by it, not amused by any drag act, and I don't understand why it was part of the ceremony, but not offended or angered

I'm afraid that you will have even more to worry about if Christianity is replaced with Islam in the Western world.  But this is not the forum do discuss this.

This display should not have been permitted.

France is a Roman Catholic country but there is  this stuff called laicite ( which  is kinda industrial strength secularism )

Bit like Oireland is all roman, but the constitution ( the one of 1922) skirts around the subject

There's loads of parodies of the last supper.

In Ireland the clergy had their gaitered boots on the necks of the peasants for too long.

In France the struggle between the seçular and Catholicism was long and fierce.  The book, The Red and the Black, touches on this.

To portray the diners at the last supper with people in drag surely shows that antagonism still exists.

I would have liked to have seen Muhammad make an appearance, just for balance.

Clone - that can't happen - or not without a violent riot.  That's the problem.

If you have zero respect for religion and hold all of them in contempt as I do as brainwashing cults for the gullible (breaking news - there is no god) I couldn't give a tinker's cuss who gets offended over their own brand of fiction.

Didn't see it but have since heard about it.  Totally indifferent to it.

But some get much more offended than others.  Fatwas and murders are not uncommon.

There's loads of parodies of the last supper.

o god  do you remember the squawking over Life  of Brian ?

Just a quick note for anybody still pretending to be offended by this slight to their religious beliefs...

Dearest Gentle Reader,

I’m about to step on some toes in regard to the Opening Ceremony at the Paris Olympics.

The headless woman was Marie Antoinette. She ruled over France and was found guilty of treason, conspiracy, and stealing from the country.

Sound familiar?

Also, it was not the Last Supper. It was a depiction of an ancient Greek Bacchanal… because, you know, the Olympics are ancient and Greek. Surprise!

And if you didn’t know, a Bacchanalia is an uncontrollably promiscuous, extravagant, and loud party. The parties often spanned several days which honored the god of wine, Bacchus (the blue guy covered in grape vine). He is also known as Dionysus, the Greek god of fertility, later known as the god of wine and pleasure.

And finally, it was not Death on a pale horse. It was Sequana, Goddess of the Seine, the River in which the boat precession took place. She was meant to be the representation of the Olympic spirit and of Sequana.

If some of you weren’t so busy trying to end the Dept. of Education, you might know this.

Loosen the clutch on your pearls.

Yours truly,
Lady Francis
