I can't believe he didn't know Gerald du Maurier or Decolletage.  I think he was being kind.

12:24 They can get fired if they are not good enough and lose too much dosh.

No Chaser has been fired in the 15 years the show has been running - they have a cushy job!

Question Author

I'm convinced Shaun  could be pretty confident he wasn't going to lose this one.  The questions were multuple choice - the contestant had amassed only £1000 in the cash builder and was dire at the table, leaving only one person with £5000 in the final chase.   The questions Shaun failed on would have been easily answered by most at any pub quiz.   Statistics or not, I think Shaun was being kind in trying to make some sort of a match of it not least for entertainment's sake.

Yeah he was unlikely to lose but why throw a question? Occams razor peeps.

naomi: "The questions Shaun failed on would have been easily answered by most at any pub quiz.  " - well you've changed your tune! You are always having a go at the TWAU posts when the answers are usually in the question. The other day you had a go at me insisting your knowledge less than I assumed it to be"! ...I was trying not to believe it!

Question Author

TTT, it was a no match.... completely.  I think he tried to make it a little more entertaining - and I suspect that's allowed.  Why am I telling you anyway?  You must haver seen it.

Question Author

TTT, what on earth are you talking about?  The answers weren't in the questions.  They were answers I would expect anyone with a half-decent standard of general knowledge to know.

I'd love to know if contestants on The Chase have to attend an audition

12:44 on a TWAU thread the other day I said you were pretending to be thick, you said you were not pretending. Your words not mine.

Question Author

TTT, that has nothing to do with this.

because at 12:42 you claimed the questions were obvious, usually you deny any question is obvious.

Question Author

Where did I say that?

What were these two questions?

at 12:38 you said; "The questions Shaun failed on would have been easily answered by most at any pub quiz.  "

at 12:42 I replied: //- well you've changed your tune! You are always having a go at the TWAU posts when the answers are usually in the question. The other day you had a go at me insisting your knowledge less than I assumed it to be"! ...I was trying not to believe it!//

at 13:03 I said: "because at 12:42 you claimed the questions were obvious, usually you deny any question is obvious." - I should have said:

"because at 12:38 you claimed the questions were obvious, usually you deny any question is obvious."

Question Author

TTT, wind your neck for goodness sake.  I didn't say they were obvious.  I said they were answers I would expect anyone with a half-decent standard of general knowledge to know.

Corby, I can't remember the exact wording now, but it was last night's Chase if you want to watch it.

naomi: "I said they were answers I would expect anyone with a half-decent standard of general knowledge to know." - yes just like all of the TWAU posts, yet you insist they are not common knowledge in most cases.

Question Author

TTT, this was a chaser, not a random contestant.  I would expect a chaser to have at least a half-decent standard of general knowledge.  That's how they got the job.

Which contestant was it?

Question Author

Here you are, Corby.  The questions:

Which famous author wrote a book called 'Gerald a Portrait' about her actor father?

Daphne du Maurier, Enid Blyton, Frances Hodgson Burnett.

In fashion the word Décolletage describes what type of neckline on a piece of clothing?

Collared, halter, low cut.

Question Author

I was mistaken.  The contestant got £2000 - still dire at the table though.
