Foxes

Tried lots of ways to deter foxes from my garden, they're a local resident family, no joy, any ideas please ?

Are they urban foxes?

Foxes do not like strong smells like vinegar, pepper or chilli.

Use a sound deterrent - cheap enough at around £30

Don't leave anything edible laying around your garden

Make sure your fencing is secure

What harm are they doing, do you keep hens ? I put food out at night for pine martens and hedgehogs, it always goes & no harm done other than an occasional spot of doo-doo.  Good karma!

Agree with Khandro, what harm are they doing?  I've a family of urban foxes who visit my garden regularly and cause no bother whatever.

If you've got dogs, foxes can cause a lot of barking in the early hours. 

Another problem with dogs and foxes - dogs love rolling in fox poo, it's like catnip to them and the stench is horiffic.

Foxes love digging up everything that is freshly planted and they will eat any fruit and veg that you're growing.  

Foxes will eat hedgehogs occasionally, and not as tidily as badgers.  They also eat birds, one took a wood pigeon sitting on her nest in my garden this year.

So they can be problematic.

Just leave them. I love watching the foxes in my garden. Contrary to popular belief they don't make hideous noises or leave much mess or smell. No more than any dog who wanders in from the beach.

Get a man to have a wee here and there certainly deters foxes.

Foxes are always digging up my garden.  One of them sprayed my wildlife camera and I had to throw it away as it stank and so did I when I tried to take the film chip out of it.  They also messed half way up the stem of my chilli plant so that had to go as well. They can spread mange to household dogs and I`m sure the reason a lot of cats go missing around here is because of foxes.  I spray diluted Jayes spirit around the parts where they dig which seems to work for a short while at least.

I'm afraid that is simply nature, 'Red in tooth and claw'. If s/he hadn't scoffed your pigeon s/he'd have only taken something else in another location. It's going on all around us and we can't play God.

I got fed up of finding buried decapitated squirrels in my veg patches

Local hunt in France recommended  Lion Pooh spread around (it can be bought).  Only thing they knew that got rid of foxes andwild boar.

I see the "Wildlife is repugnant" brigade in full cry here.

But as regards damage etc I haven't seen anything which doesn't equally apply to darling little pussycats.

Kh -  those are German pine martens and know how to behave

Why do you want to deter them I've foxes for ages.

One of the best parts of my terrier's day is watching for the first foxes to come sniffing around the garden so he can see them off.
