Hi all

Can someone please tell me what the little thing at the top right of the screen is actually for on ITV/Channel 4/Channel 5

I know it is on when the adverts are about to come on or when the programme is about to finish.

There must be a reason for it though. Is it anything to do with ratings?

It's just to let you know it's ok to put the kettle on now!
...it's a countdown marker for the adverts...

It is for the regions to prepare to broadcast their ads.

Adverts are sometimes different in the regions, whereas the programme is broadcast nationally.
