I love the Beatles, although overkill on them in my childhood means I rarely listen to them specifically.
However when I listen to ANY Beatles song it reminds me of how amazing they are. My class listened to 3 versions of Let It Be, and when they heard the original they were all just smiling and swaying! And for a bunch of punks and goths, that is a big deal! There is something about the mixture of the voices and the production that made them amazing. The songs were good, but lots of bands in the 60s had good songs. I think they were VERY lucky to have George Martin.
I am a big fan of both, but The Beatles' back catalogue is just so eclectic they have to get it. How songs as diverse as Love Me Do, Strawberry Fields Forever, Yesterday, A Day in the Life, Revolution and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds can all be by the same four guys amazes me.
I'm not necessarily sure about the Beatles more sing along-able, I'd rather join in with We are the Champions than Within You Without You any day.
