80's tv show or just a dream?

I remember a show in the 80's about a guy, probably a proffesor of sorts, who flew around in some sort of air bus with a bunch of kids collecting jewelled Salamanders. Does anyone else remember it or was i dreaming? I have asked hundreds of people any no-one has a clue! Thanks.

I don't know about the salamanders,but there was a series called QED wich starred Sam Waterston and Caroline Goodall,and I think there was a hot air balloon or an airship in it.

Could be. Tried looking on the web but can't find any info! Best i could come up with is that "poopsnaggles" was a spin off from "secret valley", an austrailian series about two rival gangs from the bush. Thanks for the extra info.
