80's series - Fashion

Hello,

Anyone remember a show on ITV in the early 80s that was transmitted at about 2pm which seemed to be based in the heady world of fashion design/sweat shops in London?

It was fairly cheesy, and so bad it was GREAT!

I can remember two - there was "Connie" starring Stephanie Beacham, that was about 1985 I think and she ran a clothing factory with her sister played by Pam Ferris. There was also one called "Gems" which was also early 80s but I can't remember much about that one!!

It must be 'Gems' ~ that was incredibly cheesy!

I think it was on before 'Sons & Daughters' although of course I wouldn't know as I was at school ;o)

I can't seem to find any website with information on Gems (which totally rings all the right bells) and yes, before Sons and Daughters, and yes, I should have been at school too...

IMDB has Gems listed but doesn't say much about it. The cast list is there though but i'd only heard of one, Georgina hales.

Cindy O'Callaghan was in 'Gems' too ~ although she seems to be missing form the cast list on IMDB. Think her character was 'Callie' if I remember right..?

She also played the little girl in Disney's 'Bedknobs & Broomsticks'.

Woo hoo!! well done for finding it. It's the sort of show that goes in the 'so bad it's great' (like 'Eldorado') file. Would be quite nostalgic to find it on DVD..

God, I thought it was such a terribly sophisticated drama (well, I was only 13 or so...) and made me want to be a fashion designer in the Big Smoke.

I'm trying to find out if the girlfriend of the 'flashy' designer (not the accountant-like brother) is the same actress who played Robert Bathurt's partner in the comedy drama 'Joking Apart'.
