what is the name of the childrens drama of the late 80's which was about a creature in the sand?

Was it The Samarid? Something like that, I think.

The drama was "Five Children And It", adapted from the book of the same title by E.Nesbit. The "it" was called the Psammead, pronounced Sam E Add.

There was also a sequel c.1993 called "Return Of The Psammead".

It wasn't the late 80s was it? I was born in 1987 and I watched it every week when I was about 6, give or take a few years. I loved it but the "it" always freaked the heck out of me!
