Went to see it last night. Anyone else? Just seemed a bit pointless if you'd seen the original. Nothing new really. Although very well made, Liev Schreiber is no Gregory Peck, and London/Rome are pretty obviously Prague. Also, it really misses the original music. Any thoughts?

I won't bother going to see it as I have read some reviews which don't give the movie any compliments!

One of them stated ''The only chills you will get from watching this will be from the air conditioning in the cinema''.

The original is brilliant ~ sets the mood & gives me goosebumps even to this day. I have found that with most 'horror' remakes they rely too much on special effects and gore. This isn't needed in most cases.

Its hard to remake and improve on an original,CANT be done, although apparently it was the same director as the original and all the chills are exactly the same, all there, haven't seen it,doubt i will,I stick by the original!!!!!!

I won't see it on the principal that every remake of classic films that I have seen has been a big disappointment. I don't personally know anyone who feels differently. Why the hell can't people try to be original these days? Many films are copies of previous films and a great deal of music steals samples from famous classic originals to sell an otherwise bland product. I prefer to watch older films anyway. The majority of modern films do absolutely nothing for me.

Can i add to my original question/post to recommend that if you haven't seen the original (who hasn't?) you might well really enjoy this, but if you have seen the original and still want to see this you should wait for the dvd.
I agree with the posts that the original was better than the remake, as is usually the case. Although, in this instance, they have kept very much to the same story. I thought that the casting of the two lead roles - Mr and Mrs Thorn - was wrong. Liev Schreiber was a bit wooden and his emotions not strong enough and Julia Stiles, although dressed to appear mumsie, didn't have the gravitas of Lee Remick. However, the rest of the casting was brilliant - Mia Farrow as the nanny, David Thewlis as the photographer, Pete Poselthwaite as the obsessed priest and Michael Gambon - excellent! If the film did any good, it was that it got me looking for a copy of the original on video!
