Has anyone else been surprised by the change in the price of butter recently? I do not buy it regularly and nearly had a hissy fit when I picked up a packet of good old anchor butter today only to replace it when I saw it was nearly a pound a packet !! When did that happen and why? It was much cheaper the last time I bought any, is it only that brand ? Any suggestions appreciated !!

Imported butter is more expensive. Stick to English or Irish butter.. much cheaper. Anchor is 84p at my local Sainsburys and Lurpack 99p whereas Kerrygold is 74p as is Country Life.
Sainsburys own Brand English Butter, slightly salted ,which is as good as any butter I have tried is only 64p.
I'm gobsmacked over shaney's butter price knowledge!!!
I have always bought Lurpak, and I cant remember it ever being lower than 80p a packet. I use the cheaper brands for baking though.
Well Boo us poor old Biddies have to search around for bargains you know ! .The old pension doesn't go far....I am considering swopping butter for bread and scrape !! Otherwise I can't afford a new liberty bodice this winter.
And whoever said Stork tastes like butter should have their head examined !

Shaney, the price was similar to that in the supermarket, Somerfields until today when it was 98p a pack !! I bought their makes sense brand at 55p. I will see how it tastes and if it is ok anchor will stay on the shelves ! Our prices seem to be higher all of a sudden.
Well that explains it flubber .. Somerfields prices go up and down like Tower Bridge ..our local one is infamous for it !
Iceland quite often have Country Life 2 @ 1.50 or Anchor 3 for 2.00, but extortionate price otherwise. Waitrose used to do own brand for 54p, then suddenly increased it to more than top brand names!

Makes a mockery of "never knowingly undersold"

lurpakaholic here I'm afraid....I'll have to go easy on the gin instead ;o)
shaney I'll give the sainsbury's a try but if I don't like it on your head be it.....followed swiftly by the butter dish!!!
