manners

what manners were you taught when you were younger and do u still follow them now? mine was whenever i was at my grandparents and we were eating once i had finished i had to wait until everyone had finished and then ask "could i please leave the table", even if i needed the toilet i still had to wait, my grandad if he was feeling funny would say "well you cant take it with you" always made me laugh still makes me smile now remembering. Manners should be one of the first things kids learn, my son is 4 on sunday and he asks for things, says please thankyou. if he forgets then remembers he says "oh i forgot my manners" and asks again. kids should learn from an early age and in grown up life will stand them in stead. always repect ur elders they have "been there done that read the book seen the film got the t-shirt"

Basically I was always taught to treat anyone as you would like to be treated...however, without letting anyone walk all over me and treat me like crap. Don't get me wrong, my mum never told me to start fights with anyone but to address people who are treating me with disrespect and try to settle the problem. Examples are to open doors for others, lend a hand when needed (even to strangers), always smile at others and say please and thank you and basically just be polite as possible! I have to say it's worked wonders for me coz no-one walks all over me but I do come across as pleasant to others
As for the respect your elders.....the one only applies to me when they respect me! I hate snotty, uppity nasty old people who think they can talk to youngers like crap without anyone saying anything! Very annoying!

I think manners are important and i agree with them
however, i can't bear pointless etiquette and manners, such as no elbows on the table - why? who is is hurting? what harm does it do? who cares?
or not eating until everyone else starts - why? your meal gets cold and ruined and everyone else just tucks in not giving a toss about your meal
or waiting to leave the table - why? its wasting time and helps no-one. i personally would feel uncomfortable if a table full of people were sitting there willing me to finish my meal so they could leave the table - did it occur to anyone that this rule could spoil someones dining experience, by making them feel the need to rush it?
or placing your used knife and fork ' just so' when you're done - why? the plate goes in the washing up bowl, who cares what position your knife is in?
of course please, thank you, courtesy consideration etc etc are important and should be encouraged, but i have no time for old fashioned pointless rules

Goodness me!
I'm a child myself and I can't stand some other children for some of the things they do...
It's so annoying when these named 'Chavs' and 'gangsters' strut the place shouting abuse at people and then some of us, that like to actually care for people, are left with others staring back at us as if we were about to mug them!
People with brains, use manners. They think to be polite, to ask questions if they don't understand, to help others.
I've just been sat for an hour helping a friend write a composition for school.
It's so annoying when people just fly by and kick you up your backside thinking 'oh, I won't say sorry, I don't even know her'
