on the news, that steve irwins death was caught on camera? He was filmed seconds before death desperatly trying to get the stingray's barb out of his heart. It will be used for coroner purposes but how long do you think it will be before it's being shown on the bbc? surely they have respect for his family?

Well it said on the radio that the family have given their consent for it to be shown on TV

I saw that this morning, his mate looked so distressed when explaining the details of the film on GMTV. It was heartbreaking.

I was in the Q in Sainsbury's just now and this was on the front of the incredibly informative "Daily Star". It said that Steve had ademently expressed if he should die whilst filming he wanted the film to be shown. According to the Star (obviously incredibly factual) the Irwin family are in talks to show it on TV globally.

I can see it oppening a huge can of worms, do we really need to see anyone's death on TV. Surley the family should keep this to themselves.

Why would it be so awful to show it? It's him, doing what he loved, interacting with wildlife, in the wild.

I think he would want it to be seen.

I totally understand that by human nature we are all inquisitive. However one of his close friends (a big man) was crying on the news this morning explaining how difficult and upsetting it was to watch to watch him dying. Seems sad that they would release this to the world. I think it should be kept private.

Irwin has actually already given his concent he has always told his crew members even if he were to get in difficulty keep filming. It is his production team that have the tape and I'm sure being freinds of his they will have the respect his family deserves.

I just saw on Sky news that it is likely that it will be kept in the documentary he was filming when it's shown on TV. I suppose if he gave his consent and his family agree to it then it will be shown.

Not quite sure yet if I could watch it though.

I dont think they will show him actually dying but the attack to show how stingrays can attack.

i have to own up here and admit i didnt really like his programmes always thought he was just intimidating the animals to make good television would he have been so egotistical to wish his death to be viewed on t v ?

If they did show it, it would probably be on late at night because it would be too much for children to watch.

Then there would be the big public debate should they or shouldnt they. you can almost hear Mary Whitehouse turning in her grave over this one.

It would not be the first time that consent is given to show the death of someone, whoever they are...

Classic example one of the charriot riders in Ben Hur, fell off the charriot and was trampled to death by the other horses...his widow requested that it remain in the film...

Several years ago, at an air display, a heicopter was landing (I think it was in difficulty) and somebody who went forward to try and help the crew misjudged the rotors, and the blades cut him in half. Again, his widow gave her permission for it to be shown on the TV News...

This film belongs to the Discovery channel and they have no plans to show it on tv.

apparently only 2 other people have ever died in oz from stingray stings.they reckon it was the barb piercing his heart rather than the venom that killed him.
this wont be shown on any tv channel but will almost certainly find its way on to the internet.

I take it everyone who is against the showing will not be watching it then?? Kennedy's assasination is shown often enough.

exactly so why shouldnt it be shown on TV if he wanted it to be. Anyone that doesnt want to see it doesnt have to see it.

yeah i have to admit i find it interesting but i know the story really. I don't need to watch this to justify anything. He was swimming on top of it and it stuck its barb in. Theres nothing more to it really is there?
