I watched this the other night, and i was suprised to see how much make up the women were wearing, especially the blonde in the beginning ( full eyeliner and everything!) was anyone else aware just how much make up was available to peasants all those centurys ago? ;-)

Yes - we all thought that in my office - to be honest I was a little disappointed - TV for Busted/Mcfly fans - lets hope it gets better - apart from Richard Armitage who was as good as ever

The series has been savaged in advance for the glaring faults in its costumes and dialogue, but remember, TV is apealing to a modern audience, and these concessions are probably seen asa necessary trade-off to obtain the viewing audience they are looking for.

I don't imagine the had Brylcreem in those days either, but Richard Greene (ask your parents) wore it, and we all accepted it - time moves on. Sigh ...

no but its a historical television programme! i watched it, a little dissapointed but im going to carry on watching it!
and theres nothing wrong with putting makeup on actors, its part and parcel of the job but its easy to put makeup on to look natural, women do it all the time, surely the bbc's make up artists can do the same?!
come on, we all laugh at the fact that in prince of theives robin marion and will scarlet all had american accents but it didn't stop people watching it! i made a tongue in cheek comment, dont take it so seriously!

Yeah I'd agree a daft amount of makeup, also commented on by my kids, but as you say a bit of fun and easy family viewing.

If anyone watched the jonathan ross show on sunday afternoon, you would have seen that the bbc make up dept used a lot less than hollywood did on errol flynn etc on the big screen versions. As people have said before, this is pure escapism entertainment.

Complete and utter sh*te can't be excused by saying "Oh come on it's just pure escapist entertainment". Rotten dialogue, lame acting, bad casting, a classic iconic hero figure being played with almost no conviction or substance - he's just a lightweight pretty boy with a stupid bum-fluff beard. Make-up or no make-up, the whole thing stunk. Even gung-ho escapist entertainment should be allowed the courtesy of being done well.

I didnt hate it but thought that it could have been done better it reminded at times of Panto! I will keep on watching it to see if it improves, fingers crossed!

man some of u really take this too seriously, i dont care how much make up erol flynn wore or how much brylcreem richard greene had, i was making a valid point about THIS version of robin hood, and the stupid amounts of make up the women wore, and its true whether u moaning minnies like it or not!

jacobsmummy I agree, a couple of the women had impeccable eyeshadow. You have to strike a balance - yes it's escapist but you can't just go around taking the p*ss. But anyway, the make-up balls-up is just one drop in a raging torrent.
