Avocado suggests that Dune (the original) is so much better than the recent re-make, and it got me thinking of other films which have been shot again in recent years, the only one i can think of where the re-make was as good/better than the original is 'Ocean's eleven' - anybody else think of ones in the same category?

"The time machine" goes on the crappy re-make list - sorry but even a Samantha Mumba appearance didn't save this one
The Sylvester Stallone version of "Get Carter" has to be added to the shocking remake list, along with Tim Burton's "Planet of the Apes".
Heat remake of LA Takedown
for the definitive list goto http://us.imdb.com/search in the word search box enter remake and choose keywords from the dropdown list. Then click go if youve done it right you should have just over 3000 matches
Oops forgot to mention you can check out what the film is a remake of by going to funstuff/movie connections
The Front Page has been made at least four times and for my money the best version is the second one (I think it's the second one anyway) called His Girl Friday with Cary Grant & Rosalind Russell. On the Cary Grant front, the non-musical Philadelphia Story was class compared to High Society. As you can see, I don't get to the cinema (I still call it 'the pictures') much!
I have to say that I prefer the remakes of House on Haunted Hill and Thirteen Ghosts but I'm a sucker for special effects and I can't be doing with supposedly 'creepy' black and white films. Maybe I'm just jaded?
Possibly "Thomas Crown Affair"? but then it did have Rene Russo in it....phhwooaarr.
