My real name is Kerris and I am so thankful that my parents chose this name for me. I love it! It is unusual where I live (although common in Wales and spelt Cerys) and lots of people remark on it! My husband, by comparison, is called Michael Jackson and has had the p*** taken out of him for as long as he can remember. It has changed who he is, as he has had to live with the remarks all his life! Top marks to Radio 2 DJ Ken Bruce though....Mike was on Popmaster and Ken never uttered a thing about his name! How do other ABers feel about their names? Have they been a positive in their lives or do people make a prior judgement, before they've even met them?
i have a quite old fashioned name Dorothy, my middle name is jean and my maiden name was Broady, i have therefore had countless references to Oz, i can't wear spots or dots on my clothes, and when i was unmarried i was always Miss Jean Brodie lol I am named after Dorothy lamour and have never matched her stunning beauty, but my grandad wanted to cal me cynthia and so there is a God lol
I lived with my name for 37 years, and I loathed it for as long as I can remember. To the point where I'd almost literally cringe when I had to tell anyone what it was.
A couple of weeks ago, I decided enough was enough- and changed it by deed poll. Friends and family are still reeling in shock from it, and Mr Boo gets a jab in the ribs with whatever is in my hand at the time ( i try to make it sharp and pointy) if he calls me by my birth name.
I have a friend who was called Myra but changed it to Kyra in her 40's as she did not like the association with Myra Hindley and then saw the name Kyra on the credits of a programme and decided to change it by deed poll.
Oh! what did you change it to, Boo? I liked your name....:O(
Mine's pretty original too (Morgan), and I like it, especially because it's international. Another French friend of mine's name is Fanny....I don't think I would have moved to an English speaking country with that name, to be honest.
my ex husbands grandma was called fanny hawkes nee hatton and that was her name on her birth registration too, we assumed it was a nickname but it wasn't .
I've never really liked my first name but live with it. I rememebr upsetting my Mum telling her I hated my name, so never dared mention it again! My middle name however is very unusual and I wish it had have been my first name! My maiden name was unusual too and prehaps should have kept it after I was married. There definatly wouldn't have been anyone else with my full name.
Can't believe you changed your name B00!! not that I knew your original name but good for you to do something that you felt that strongly about! :o)
My names Carrie, i used to hate it when i was younger, people always called me Kerry or Karen! sometimes i got so fed up with it i just let them call me what they liked! and also there was the carrier bag, cash and carry.... i think u get the jist! however im warming to it now :)
Isn't it weird how you associate names? For example....I'm of a certain age where i associate the name Carrie with the Stephen King book and film of the same name.
I actually like the name Carrie, but nothing could make me call a child that now due to the above point.
sorry....I'm going off on a tangent aren't I? I'll behave.
i don't mind anne or annie - but it really winds me up when people call me anna. I have never really given it a lot of thought, but i remember once when I was little wanting to be called Michelle. I also wanted to change my name to include Cilla Black in the middle - what a strange child I was!!
if ya serious sleepy, do what i did and do something about it. You can do it online, costs 34 quid and a week later you could be called Tallulah Jezebelle if you so wish!
