His mum is the reigning Monarch.

Although he resigned his commission as Second-Lieutenant, Royal Marines in January 1987 (before graduation) he has since acquired three British honorary military appointments;

Royal Honorary Colonel, of the Royal Wessex Yeomanry
Royal Colonel, of the 2nd Battalion, The Rifles
Commodore-in-Chief, of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary

...along with two Canadian appointments;

Colonel-in-Chief, of The Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment
Colonel-in-Chief, of the Saskatchewan Dragoons
Ask him. Or better still, become first sea lord, then demote him to scrub them decks! Good plan?
Surely being a tit is all the qualification you need...
We can't ALL be high ranking naval officers you know!
Get rid of the lot of them.

Oh I see - through an accident of birth he is entitled to wear military uniforms that he hasn't earned.

And people ask me why I'm a republican...................
Yeah but it means as much as these people who get honorary dgrees from universities, like Robert Mugabe. It gives them the chance to wear fancy dress but nothing else.

I wouldn't be royal for anything, its a life sentence.
who cares whether he dresses up as a naval commander? You don't think they'd let him actually command a ship in a war? No way. Even Harry isn't allowed to go to war, though he's qualified to do so. So it's just part of the royal fancy dress parade that impresses foreigners and brings in the tourists.

I remember we used to laugh and insult Idi Amin in the 1970's for giving himself honours like Sir, Air commodore chief admiral, Lord Amin or some such nonsense but that is exactly what our royal family do.

None of them have any legitimate claim to any of the titles they give themselves
My old dad, a wise bird, used to quote Robbie
Burns to me:

'The rank is but the guinea's stamp;
'The man's the gold, for a' that.'
flip flop, just how do you know his birth was an accident? do you know his mum??
Is it because he is an Rear Admiral?
O.M.G. It wasn't an accident. An addition to the numbers of our illustrious royal family is a matter of careful forethaught and planing! And besides, there were some spare fancy uniforms at the back of the wardrobe; shame to waste 'em.

An accident of birth is an expression which basically means it could have been anybody who was spat forth from her maj's vag, but in this instance as opposed to being somebody who has earned the right to wear uniforms it just happens to be the big waste of space and civil list money tit that is Edward!
I always assumed that impersonating an officer, being police or military, was a criminal offence.

I always remember after WW2 and during those days of shortages, my father used his ex-service greatcoat during the winter to keep himself warm on his way to work. But on one occasion he was stopped by a police officer, who told him he could only wear it if he removed the buttons and any other military emblems etc.

It couldn't of been anybody, because i'm an anybody for e.g. It could only of been Prince Edward, and it was. Get over it. O.M.G.
Question Author
Christ. Look, I'll try to explain what the expression means again so you can understand it...................actually, sod it, I can't be bothered.
