Now they have John Simm in the role; at last, someone with talent on a par with Delgado himself (though he has a far less striking appearance). With any luck, he'll put Tennant out of a job...
I was a little wary of the whole Ghosts of Mars thing in this episode, but was pleasantly surprised.

I don't think they will stop it. Not until the popularity dips, anyway.
I've just never taken to Tennant. He just doesn't have the presence that some previous Doctors have had (like Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee, or to a lesser extent even Chris Eccleston after he got into the role a bit).
He's not nearly as bad as the atrocity against Sci-Fi which was Colin Baker [Boo, hiss]. I just find him rather underwhelming. Plus I'm finding it ever more difficult to forgive him for his horrendously over-done performance in The Family of Blood. They could've done worse, but I think they could've also done better...

I like Tom Baker a lot, but for some reason I just prefer Jon Pertwee.
I think it's because the Third Doctor had a kind of maverick streak which I felt suited the character very well.
Davison was average. [Colin] Baker was heinous. Sylvester McCoy was actually a slight recovery (back to average), but not nearly as good as the first 4 Doctors (exempting Troughton - I've not seen any of his so can't judge).
Unfortunately, McCoy pulled some of the worst stories ever written for Dr. Who...
Ecclestone's first few episodes (regarding his portrayal of the Doctor) were just above average, but then he started to 'get into' the role and was, I think, the best since Baker in the second half or 2/3rds of his season. It's a shame he quit when he did, I think he would've done a far better job than Tennant.
Tennant's not been bad. I just don't think he's been especially good. The closest parallel to Tennant is, I feel, McCoy (though I'd still place McCoy above him). Average, is okay when given a good story, but is mostly rather underwhelming.

Sorry that this is not in the thread of what you are discussing, but:
Is anyone old enough ( as I am ) to remember the episode called The Evil of the Daleks? It was the one where Patrick Troughton gave three daleks the human factor and they behaved like children. He even named them Alpha, Beta and Omega. You can't download the episode and according to the website there is no way to get a copy.
It was brilliant and my better half is gutted that he can't watch it.

Along with most of Hartnell's, tragically. It's too bad they couldn't have done some time travel themselves and destroyed some of Colin Baker's tenure as the Doctor...
Most of the old Who's I've seen are on UKTV Gold. They marathon them early in the morning on saturdays - I used to record them the night before, and watch them with my breakfast.
The only Who I've seen Patrick Troughton in is The Three Doctors, in which I thought he was fine, but it was an excellent story. Does anyone have any Troughton reccomendations (preferably whole)?

Is anyone else getting tired of references to Rose Tyler all the time? Maybe it's just me but......she's not in it any more!
If I was playing Martha (can't spell her name without looking it up!) I would have kicked up a stink about it. How is she meant to stamp her own personality on the role when Rose's name is mentioned each episode?
I know they were "close" but that only narks me even more, because the Doctor never got close to anybody and that made him an enigma. Tennant, in my opinion, is too camp and his over enthusiasm in the role is too much. The Doctor was always so cool a genius and his emotions never came to the fore as much as Tennants. Ecclestone for me was getting into the role really well, sadly he left.
Jon Pertwee was the master (no pun intended)

I'm with you. I think David Tennant is WONDERFUL.
and Saturday's episode was absolutely amazing.
The return of Captain Jack was great and I loved the interplay between him and the Doctor.
I also think it's good that Rose is mentioned. Surely that's more believable than never mentioning someone who was part of your life for a long time.
Roll on next Saturday!!!!
