Maybe the woman who was letting the house dropped her off in the morning, or maybe Jamie wasn't a "morning person"? The most likely reason is that he didn't want to be seen as coming on too strong, and offerring a lift home is fairly neutral.

There doesn't necessarily have to be a specific reason for driving her home at night but not picking her up in the morning, does there? Think about it in a real life situation - you would be greatful to someone if they offered you a lift home at night... but you wouldn't necessarily expect them to put themselves out to collect you in the morning too. She could probably walk the journey herself, but it's nice when someone offers to help out.

The director says himself that the situation is actually based on part of his own life when he had a Portuguese housemaid and every evening he gave her a life home.
