Now that JK Rowling has officially named her next book who do you think is the half-blood prince?? I initally thought it could possibly be something to do with Neville Longbottom, but have since remembered that both his parents were wizards therefore he is full blood. Anyone any suggestions as to who it could possibly be??

In the other books, the item or person in the title was usually new; the chamber of secrets, the order of the phoenix, the goblet of fire, the Prisoner of Azkaban (Sirius). Makes me think that the Half Blood Prince is someone important to the rest of the story, but who hasn't been introduced yet.
Sorry mates, but it seems not many of you watch the news. Rowling has officialy stated that the "Prince" in HP6 will be neither harry nor voldemort. Although the famous rivals would be the most obvious contenders, i agree with Pickle. The prince is probably a new character whom will later play a larger role. However, the prince may very well be a pure blood as well. It all deoends on how you look at it. I'm sure you've all heard that certain characters will betray others in the story.. the prince could be a character whom betrays harry, who has a heart filled with both good and evil. Think about it..
personaly i think that the half blood prince will be dumbledore because in the fifth book firenze states that a second war will begin and it will probably be against HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED and that dumbledore will be the protection for most of the halfbloods in the wizarding world or if not dumbledore it could probably be someone we dont even know about yet but thats my opinion most of you wont even care.

Well, its not Harry or Voldemort. I think it is probably a new character, but we don't know if she means the title literally or not. There are lots of characters that we don't know enough about to tell if they are halfblood or not. Remember what Hagrid said? "Theres not a witch or wizard alive who's not halfblood or less" so it could be ANYONE! Also, she might not mean that the person mentioned in the title (aka the Prince) is a halfblood, but that the halfbloods think of him as a prince or treat him as one. I know this hasn't really specified one person, but it should narrow it down. I honestly think its a new character or Dumbledore.
I also agree with Pickle; the character is one that probably hasn't been revealed yet. For all we know, Voldemort has an heir somewhere, although I personally doubt it. It may also refer to the new DADA professor, seeing as that's usually a key point in any book. It's definitely not Harry or Voldemort, and we could probably rule out people like Ron, Neville, and Draco who've already been labeled "Purebloods"...although as one of my brothers humorously suggested earlier, "maybe Draco's just fooling himself" ^_~
I suppose we can't rule out Dumbeldore either, but if he were any sort of royalty - literally or figuratively - I reckon he'd be "king" by now.
JKR's mention of a "Mark Evans" in book 5 is not a coincidence. Evans is Lily and Petunia's maiden name. Either they had a previously unknown brother, and Mark is his son, or Harry's muggle grandfather, Mr. Evans, had a brother who had a grandson Mark Evans. Evans is definitely a muggle name, as far as we know, but what if Mark's father married a witch, making Mark halfblood? Also, Mark was ten in book five, meaning he'd be eleven and of Hogwarts age in book six. A coincidence? I think not. The whole prince business is less certain, as well as why Harry couldn't live with the Evans--the Dursleys were supposedly his only remaining relations. Still, it's the best theory I've got. Obviously, the book alone will tell all.
I personally believe that it's a new character which will later be revealed as Harry's (a half blood) long lost twin. This person, since he was not in as much danger as Harry, was put into the care of the King and Queen of some random principalty who were very good friends of Dumbledore. This person will then play a very vital role in the last two books, influ=encing all of Harry's choices.
I think probably Dumbledore will b the prince, although Hagrid might be one as well.
I had a very strange dream last night.
I dreamt Petunia Dursley is actually a witch. Peps Dudley is a half-blood prince ( that ought to boost his ego even more, if that's possible )
Just joking!
Now serious. I've always wondered if J.K. Rowling does look at Voldemort and Riddle as the same person?
If not, it may be that Tom Riddle is the half-blood prince. She said Voldemort isn't, but Riddle might be.
Also, I got the impression all of you think some1 has to die, wheather Harry or Voldemort. What if Harry turns Voldemort back to Riddle?
