Saw it Thursday. Was really looking foward to it after 19 years of waiting and for the most part I wasn't disappointed, although the ending was a bit too silly for my liking. Harrison Ford looks amazing for his age and settled back into the role like putting on a pair of comfortable shoes. Some nice touches throughout the film with some subtle (and other not so subtle!) references to other films. With the introduction of Shia la boeuf and the reintroduction of Karen Allen the way is open for more Indy in teh hopefully near future. Overall - 7 out of 10.
My son went to see it last night and said it was really good. He took his daughters and they enjoyed it as well.
I saw it last night and as much as I wantd to love, I just couldn't. It scraped an 'average' from me.
I ws looking forward to action every other scene, but the middle portion of the film dragged.
I was also a little disappointed at the amount of CGI used in comparison to say Raiders, which had plenty going on without being over the top.
6 out of 10 from me.
I'm gaoing to wait till the crowds die down before I go and watch it.
There was no CGI in Raiders because it hadn't been invented back in 1981.

Some of the special FX in this film though are too distracting, and slightly unnecessary.

There are a couple of great action sequences that remind you why you used to love Indiana Jones.

But the plot is nonsense (even for an action adventure). And everything people say about the ending is true...
If you want to be entertained and can suspend disbelief for about two hours...I would recommend it. I don't understand why people get so het up when the plot line is weak. Who cares? It is witty and has many familiar homages to the original Indi's. If only Shia Laboeuf would change his name my life would be complete.
Methinks George Lucas may have had a bit too much influence on the plotline, probably to the detriment of the movie, but at the end of the day it's a good action film, just not as good as the previous ones.

2D CGI was used in the 1973 film Westworld and 3D CGI was used in it's 1976 follow up Futureworld, ergo it was definitely around in 1981. Also, does the film Star Wars mean anything to you? A New Hope was released in 1977.

The comparison I was making was the very limited use of it in Raiders (Kubelwagen off the cliff in the desert chase scene and the spirits flying out of the Ark at the end) in comparison to the excessive use of it in Crystal Skull.

Raiders was a rip-roaring adventure with the bare minimum of CGI, Crystal Skull a damp squib with little in the way of real-time action but masses of CGI.
