speedtest.net internet speed

I took this test twice and first time it read that my download speed was: 1960 kb/s and upload speed 139 kb/s
Second time it emasured: 829 download kb/s and 65 upload kb/s
Can someone translate this for me? Is it a very slow speed? I have noticed how much slower my pc has become in recent weeks and I think it may be as a result of "upgrading" my virgin media account from broadband only to broadband and phone line rental for 15.50 a month. Im unsure as to what speed I am supposed to be getting with them now!

Here's a link to the Virgin pagehttp://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/internet/ bb_deal.html?buspart=buyat
. As you can see 1 of the offers is 2Mb so if that's the one you're on then your first reading would be about right . Speeds can differ drastically at different times . The best thing I would say you could do would be to call Virgin & ask what your contract is although I don't know how much they charge for support calls - can be expensive

As BillySugger says, your broadband speed can vary depending on the time of day, day of the week etc. This is due to the load in the Virgin network or the load on the internet (or both).
Best thing to do is run it a few different times each day over a week or so and write down the details.
If you are on 2Mb (2,000kb) then 1960kbs is fine, 829kbs low.
The upload speed (the speed you upload things to the interent) is always much lower than your download speed and I would not worry too much about that (but still measure it and keep a note of it).

thanks guys. Yes im on the "up to 2mb" account so it makes sense. But what doesnt make sense is that things ar eso much slower now than they used to be! I had the same 2mb limit before adding phone line rental. Lets see...I have kapersky antivirus and have also recently run ad-aware 2007 to remove baddies but still things have not improved.
I never used to have problems viewing videos on youtube but now they take ages to load to the end and their viewing speed slows down if Im doing other things at the same time. This never used to happen. Also, the pc is crashing often if I have 3 or 4 windows open. It can't cope.
