I'm dreading the day the man dies (sorry Brucie!) and not for the reason you might expect.....

I've never been a fan but somehow he's endured for well over a century on the box (or so it seems), can you imagine the endless tribute shows we'll be inundated with??
I'm not a great fan of his but if he enjoys what he does and most of the public still like him, why shouldn't he carry on.

He needs to retire gracefully!!!
My work colleague is going to be 65 next April. He wanted to carry on working but management are not letting him and he is quite upset about this. There are some people out there who just don't want to stop working and are scared or retiring.

tigger he must be worth millions doesnt have a money worry!!!
Question Author
He as to let others in!!
Oh I'm sure he has plenty of money but there is a certain fear factor that goes with retirement. I do feel sorry for the guy I work with but he's been making so many mistakes in the last few years and I've had to pick up the pieces so I guess its kind of the same with Brucie and his autocue and unfunny jokes.

tigger its not the same we are placating the oldies!!!
Its down to the producers of the show. They probably think of him as an institution and wouldn't want to hurt his feelings.
I think he'll be there as long as his money keeps going into it. Could be he'll only back it if he gets to present it - it wouldn't be the first time.
just posted similar in chatterbank
I think he is a legend and I'm really pleased he is still on tv! I think he is funny!! Maybe it's an age thing. They get him to present it for the old folk like me, who remember him the first time around, and some nice young lady for the youngsters!
I like him. Who would you like to see as his replacement?

He showed his years of experience and professionalism when Ramp had the costume malfunction in a previous series, during a live show.

I think he carries the show very well indeed.
you think he should be fired just for being old? That only happens to women, like Moira Stuart and Selina Scott.
Yeah, he should go. Then we could replace him with someone dynamic, exciting and multi-talented like...erm...er...Dermot O'Leary.

On second thoughts...you just carry right on, Brucie.
Question Author
come on i think you are only looking at the mainstream,i bet there is older guys that could brucie a run for his money!!!
Who, puddicat?

I think Angela Rippon would be excellent in the post, but then Tess would have to be replaced by a young man.
Working is what keeps him going, and we shouldn't deny him that. 'Showbiz' is in his blood. Good for him, I say. You may not like him, but many people do - and the television producers clearly think he's worth employing. Apart from that, why should he be written off just because he's getting on in years? Believe it or not, we all have to get old, and whilst age may change the outer appearance, it doesn't change what's going on inside. Who would you suggest to replace him? Russell Brand? Heaven help us all!! If you don't like him, switching channels is a very simple process.
I WISH there were presenters of his calibre now. Gone are the days when the presenter could sing, dance, tap dance, had been in various Ealing comedies and other black and white films in the 30s and 40s, AND they were funny!

Who do we have now? Er... Vernon Kaye. And Tess Daly. Female presenters who are insipid and thin and blonde, seem to be the only qualifications needed. And the men? They need to be fit. No talent required.
