Souls and clones

This is a difficult subject. I believe in reincarnation. That we are basically souls on an evolutionary journey during which we become clothed in a human shell. That this is a physical plane where we learn.

I believe that there are animal souls as well, of course.

When a clone is created what brings it to life? Is it a new soul or the soul of the original body dividing, or sharing itself with another body.?

I share your view as it happens.

In that case(cloning) a life has been created, in a different way to natural conception but created nonetheless. That life is individual - the fact that it shares dna means no more than it came about in a different way. I share my parents' dna but I'm my own soul. Twins likewise. Therefore the new life has its own soul and its own destiny, and therefore this particular incarnation is just another step on the road to being a boddisatva, and the learning experience of that life includes the experience of being a clone.

Nice idea but where's your evidence? Has the number of living creatures been constant since the dawn of time? I suspect not, so this scuppers your belief in re-incarnation.
Why is the physical plane which you call the "human shell" the one in which we learn? Are there no other equally worthy "shells"?

Keyplus, this continual nonsense with me appears to be becoming an unhealthy obsession. You clearly have a serious problem - and it shows. Have you considered consulting a doctor? :o)

I'm on the fence with this one. Whilst I don't discount the possibility, and whilst I have a great admiration for the Buddhist philosophy, I have no idea whether reincarnation is fact or not. My very dear (and highly respected) friend, Chakka, will obviously dismiss it completely, but in truth, none of us know whether or not reimcarnation is possible. If we want to look at a question from the point of view of scientific research, then we must concede that man has yet much to learn, and therefore we must allow our minds to extend beyond our current extremely limited knowledge and, at least , consider that it may be possible.

Speaking hypothetically, and addressing the original question, assuming that reincarnation is reality, I would imagine that clones would be inhabited by an individual soul, either old or new - as every other physical body apparently is - but that, of course, is simply an hypothesis.

Teddio, the fact that the number of souls hasn't been constant since the dawn of time doesn't scupper Whicker's argument. You're assuming that all souls inhabit earthly bodies continually - and that is not necessarily so.

Perhaps there is a celestial place where souls are queuing and waiting for a �vehicle/shell� in which to ride. Pot luck would say what the next soul in line gets to inhabit, so next one in the queue could be human, the following could be a red bummed babbon. Some people here might not be able to tell the difference though, not without evidence of red bums of course.
