Las Vegas Casinos
A little known fact about Las Vegas Casinos actually has to do with the large number of churches in the area. Over the years, it's become common practice for the various houses of worship to find large gifts of chips from the gambling tables from almost all of the casinos, dropped in the offering plates.
It became a challenge, as the habit grew, for the churches to return the chips for cash to each of the individual casinos, especailly since many of the bigger denomination chips are unmarked as to the casino name.
Just about 10 miles north of Las Vegas is a fairly large monastery of Benedictine Order of Brothers. Somehow, they heard of the churches plights, and seeing an opportunity to provide a service and perhaps make a little money for the Order, they offered, for a nominal percentage (this is Las Vegas, after all) to sort all of the chips, return them to the appropriate casino for cash and repay the churches. This has worked amazingly well and the brothers performing the service are well known... as the Chip Monks.... (Sorry, I've got a 12 year )old)
